New What? Social Who?
New or 'Social' media is re-defining corporate communications as we know it. Empowered with the means to communicate quickly and efficiently, your customers can share stories (good and bad) about your company in seconds. However, with a little bit of planning and consideration, these technologies can work wonders for your business. New products, promotions and services can be promoted instantly and you can gauge your customer responses quickly.
Social media is an umbrella term that refers to a network of web services which are driven by user participation and conversations rather than publisher or narrative texts. Most notably these are social networks, blogs, photo and video hosting services, wikibased and microsites. Broadly speaking there are two ‘layers’ which make up social media: The first and most obvious layer is made up of the technologies that enable this phenomenon (RSS feeds, wiki-sites, streaming video, cheap broadband, mobile internet etc). The second, less obvious layer represents the users. Here, human behavior and user interaction is driven by the need to socialise and to seek and spread information.
Why do we love new media? Well, in many ways, new media provides a ‘perfect market’ for information with low entry costs and effortless transactions.
PEP staff live and breath social media. We're part of the online-generation and we know how it works. So, if you need to get your face on Facebook, or you want to take a digital-leap into the digital age we can help you.
Some of the key technologies are described below:
At the heart of Twitter are small bursts of information called Tweets. Each Tweet is 140 characters in length, but don’t let the small size fool you—you can share a lot with a little space. Connected to each Tweet is a rich details pane that provides additional information, deeper context and embedded media. You can tell your story within your Tweet, or you can think of a Tweet as the headline, and use the details pane to tell the rest with photos, videos and other media content. See it in action.
Foursquare
Foursquare is a location-based mobile platform that makes cities easier to use and more interesting to explore. By “checking in” via a smartphone app or SMS, users share their location with friends while collecting points and virtual badges. Foursquare guides real-world experiences by allowing users to bookmark information about venues that they want to visit and surfacing relevant suggestions about nearby venues. Merchants and brands leverage the foursquare platform by utilizing a wide set of tools to obtain, engage, and retain customers and audiences.
Youtube
Youtube and other online video sites are an excellent place to share online product tutorials, video guides and promotional materials. PEP are extremely experienced in video and content production and can plan, film and upload cutting-edge video content for your company.
